You can now add Meta Description to each post and page individually on your Blogger Blog. Here is a guide to achieve that. This feature is one of the latest features added to Blogger to improve your on-site Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
We cannot underestimate the importance of Meta Description because:
1. It is what is shown as snippet when your site appears on Search Results e.g Google Search.
2. When your readers bookmark or share your Blog posts or pages on social network, it is used as introductory text which attracts other people on the Social Networks to click and come to read more on your Blog.
See how important it is now? Let’s not waste our time because if you don’t already know hoe important it is, you would probably not be reading this.
How to enable and add meta description to Multi-post pages and Homepage:
Log in to your Blogger Admin Dashboard and Navigate to Settings > Search preferences > Meta tags > Description and click the Edit link.
Click the Yes radio button to enable search description. This will also be needed when you want to write meta description for posts and static pages.
Enter the meta description for your blog. This meta description will appear on your homepage and other multi-post pages.
Click Save Changes button.
How to add meta description to individual posts and pages:
A meta description for a post or a static page can be added using Blogger’s post editor. Here where you make and edit your posts.
Click Posts and select a post to edit.
Now under Post settings, click Search Description option. This option will only be available if you have checked the Yes radio button to enable search description. The one I talked about in the first step above.
Now enter the meta description for the post or the page and click DONE.
Now you should check if this feature works on your template. Some templates might not support this by default.
How to confirm if the feature works
Look for an online meta tag checker and type the URL of your post inside to see if it shows the Meta Description you just set for the post. Test for Static Pages and Homepage too.
If the meta descriptions fail to show up, oops, your theme probably does not support it. It probably does not not contain the code to import the meta description from Blogger database. Don’t despair there is a way out of this.
You will have to add it to your template manually:
Go to Template > Edit HTML > Proceed and insert the following code
<b:if cond='data:blog.metaDescription != ""'> <meta expr:content='data:blog.metaDescription' name='description'/> </b:if>
just on top of:
Now confirm using the tools I listed earlier to check if your meta description will show up now. Other things being equal, it should work.
HOPE THIS HELPS!
